How could Háholt, a dilapidated (shell of a) house in Raufarhöfn, be restored with local materials combining heritage and the most recent sustainable learnings?
The intention for this research is aimed at what already is present, both materially and immaterially, and how it can be revitalized with inspiration from itself and its
very surroundings. What is there and what has been there. Through the medium of video, oral transmission, hand-drawing, analogue photography, biotope mapping,
and hands-on material exploration, the researchers use a non hierarchical methodology.
Thus exploring the connectedness between the aforementioned and embracing openness to whatever direction being present in Icelands northernmost village might move the project. While using Háholt and its site in Framnes as a case-study the scope of the research includes the area at large, Raufarhöfn and Melrakkaslétta, a sometimes underrepresented area in research and public discourse. The hope is to
bring the learnings from remote Raufarhöfn with us to future projects of ours, be they local or global, rural or urban.
